Commercial Loan Underwriter – San Francisco Bay Area

Inspira Financial (TSX.V: LND) A small, well-capitalized, fast-growing public company, that provides a suite of financial solutions to growing healthcare providers throughout the United States, seeks a Commercial Loan Underwriter.

Under minimal supervision, the Commercial Loan Underwriter is responsible for working with potential clients in an effort to move them through the due diligence process as quickly and efficiently as possible. This person researches, validates and processes potential client applications to support timely and accurate credit decisions. The ideal candidate will make independent credit decisions and work closely with management on larger transactions across a wide range of healthcare providers. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented and organized, seeking to continuously improve the company and the credit application process.

Commercial Loan Underwriters are quantitative thinkers with the ability to work with a large number of variables and make complex decisions. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to working as a member of a team and interacting with management and clients.

This position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • As one of the first five full-time employees in the U.S., help develop new, and improve existing, underwriting processes and procedures. This is an opportunity to shape the underwriting function at an early stage in the company’s growth.
  • Using a variety of resources, evaluate and verify client information including operations, ownership, business structure and personal/business credit history.
  • Analyze borrower‘s financials, evaluating and ensuring overall documents are accurate, complete and compliant; review financial statements, credit reports, applicable ratios and other supporting documentation.
  • Develop financial profiles using existing analysis tools and inputs the data gathered into tracking and/or reporting systems and/or databases.
  • Respond timely and professionally to inquiries from potential clients, management and origination partners.
  • Able to conduct credit calls and converse effectively with potential clients as well as communicate effectively with management on all credit decisions and recommendations. Prepare loan package to credit committee with recommendation on whether to approve loans, for how much, and why.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple credit requests and complete them on time and maintain accurate follow-up of all open files and decisions

Qualifications & Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in credit analysis and/or business lending activities. You must have experience underwriting business loans.  Underwriting experience for real estate or for insurance is not sufficient.
  • Solid education in finance, economics or business; Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Must be comfortable with start-up environment and constant potential for change
  • Self-motivator with organizational and time management skills
  • Well-developed credit analysis and analytical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of economics, accounting, and finance
  • Good knowledge of risk analysis
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Background in medical billing / collections an asset
  • Knowledge of medical billing rules and regulations an asset
  • Sales experience is also beneficial, Salesforce.com experience a plus

Time Allocation

  • 60%: Gathering and analyzing potential clients financial and business information
  • 25%: Either independently or alongside an internal underwriter, visit potential client centers of operation during final due diligence
  • 15%: Prepare and present credit reports and participate in discussions with management regarding creditworthiness of potential clients

Travel:  Up to 1 week per month
